Abstract

771,240. Automatic voltage control systems. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. Jan. 13, 1955 [Nov. 25, 1953], No. 32669/53. Class 38 (4) In a system in which three automatically regulated polyphase alternators supply a common load, equal heating of the field coils is ensured by biasing the automatic voltage regulators for each alternator so as to maintain the alternator field currents equal or in a fixed ratio. The alternators A1, A2, A3 have field windings F1, F2, F3 controlled by conventional carbon-pile voltage regulators R1, R2, R3. The regulators, however, have additional bias windings D1, D2, D3 connected to a common equalizer bus-bar and to the points X, Y, Z so as to maintain these points at equal potenials, i.e. to maintain the voltage drop across each field winding F1, F2, F3 equal. The windings D1, D2, D3 may be shunted by adjustable resistors L1, L2, L3 so as to maintain the field currents in a pre-set ratio.
