Abstract

724,720. Automatic voltage-control systems. LEECE-NEVILLE CO. April 9, 1953, No. 9650/53. Class 38 (4). In an automatic voltage-control system for a variable speed, self-excited, alternator 11 supplying a D.C. load B over a main rectifier 12, the field is excited via a rectifier 37 and a saturable reactor 38 controlled by vibrating contact voltage regulator 35 and a vibrating contact current-limiting regulator 36. The control winding of the reactor, and a parallel connected auxiliary coil 54 on regulator 35, are energized at a low voltage tapped off a potential divider 70 connected across the main output, a point resistor 69 being in series and shortcircuited by the regulator contacts. In modifications, the field is excited by a three-phase rectifier with reactors in each phase, and the lower contact on the voltage regulator, which short-circuits the control winding under extreme over-voltage conditions, may be omitted.
