735,400. Automatic voltage control systems; inductances and transformers. SOC. D'APPLICATIONS ET DE FABRICATIONS INDUSTRIELLES S.A.F.I. July 17, 1953 [Aug. 5, 1952], No. 19898/53. Classes 38 (2) and 38 (4). In an automatic voltage control system for a synchronous alternator the field of which is excited over a rectifier from an A.C. exciter generator; the field of the exciter is itself excited over a rectifier and a controlled saturable reactor from a 600 c.p.s. Supply derived from an auxiliary winding in slots in the pole shoes of the exciter. The reactor 20, Fig. 1, has opposed control windings 10, 11, energized over rectifiers 14, 15 from the output of the main alternator 1 via a saturated inductance 16 and a resistance 17 respectively. The inductance 16 and resistance 17 are arranged to pass equal currents when the alternator voltage is at the required value. The windings 10, 11 control the current supplied from the auxiliary winding 6 to the exciter field 5 via rectifier 13, reactor windings 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, and a self-saturating winding 12. The exciter in turn supplies the field 2 of of the main alternator over rectifier 3. An alternative device for producing the control voltages from the alternator voltage consists of a three-limbed magnetic core, Fig. 3, one limb 36 of which is reduced cross-section so as to be saturated, and provided with a winding 33 connected to the alternator, a winding 34 connected to rectifier 14 to produce the linear output, and windings 31, 32 connected in series to the rectifier 15 to produce the non- linear output. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the winding 34 is omitted, the linear output being obtained from winding 32, and the non-linear from winding 31.
