Abstract

854,028. Exciting alternators; automatic voltage control systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. March 6, 1959 [March 7, 1958], No. 7844/59. Classes 35 and 38 (4). An alternator is compound excited through transformers 11, 12, 13 which carry saturating windings 26 energized by an automatic regulating system 28, 30, 32 responsive to voltage or unbalance for producing a fine control. The transformers comprise separate cores per phase and the secondary windings 20, 21, 22 are delta-connected to the rectifiers to reduce the over-all voltage and so facilitate insulation. Similarly, the saturating windings 26 are effectively delta-connected to prevent the injection of A.C. into the regulating circuit. The voltage windings 8, 9, 10 are connected through powerfactor compensating chokes 14, 15, 16.
