Abstract

868,882. Permanent magnet generators; automatic voltage control systems. SYNCHRO CORPORATION. July 31, 1959, No. 26325/59. Classes 35 and 38 (4). The voltage output of an engine-driven permanent magnet A.C. generator is regulated by means of a condenser 64 connected across part of the armature winding forming a resonant circuit which is connected and disconnected by a voltage responsive relay R2. The generator consists of a salient-pole stator carrying load windings 34, 36, 38, and resonant windings 60, 62, all excited by rotating poles 14, 16. The empty poles may carry ignition windings. The load windings feed a battery 46 through rectifiers 48, 52 and a charging-current responsive relay R1 to a centre-tap 56. At a predetermined charging current the relay R1 connects the relay R2 across the battery voltage to be regulated. In a modification (not shown), the resonant windings may be electrically separate from the main windings.
