Abstract
831,698. Exciting alternators; automatic voltage control systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec. 30, 1957 [Jan. 4, 1957], No. 441/57. Classes 35 and 38 (4). In a single or polyphase alternator 1 which is compound excited through a rectifier 5 and transformer 7 having a current primary 8 and voltage primary 9, further control of the output voltage of the alternator is provided by feeding the voltage winding 9 through a saturable reactor 10 whose D.C. control winding 11 is supplied from a voltage controller 12 responsive to the output voltage. The controller 12 may comprise a neon reference and a magnetic amplifier. Build-up is ensured by closing a switch or relay 13. A single winding may be used if the voltages of windings 6 and 9 are equal.
