633,333. Electricity supply ; automatic control systems for alternators. ROTAX, Ltd., and HAMILTON, R. F. G. March 13, 1948, No. 7702. [Class 38 (iv)] Variable speed generators, with; transformer arrangements; voltage control.-A variable speed alternator a supplies a D.C. circuit e and a lower voltage D.C. circuit i. The circuit i is connected to the higher voltage A.C. supply through a step-down transformer f, g and the secondary windings q of a booster transformer, of which the primary windings r are supplied from the alternator through saturable chokes p. The alternator field is regulated by a carbon pile regulator having a control coil k responsive to the voltage of circuit e and the' saturating winding o of the chokes is controlled by a similar regulator subject to the voltage of circuit i. In a modification enabling the saturating current to fall to zero, that end of the winding o which is connected to the carbon pile is also connected through a resistance to a circuit of higher voltage than the circuit i, such as the circuit e; a rectifier may be inserted in the saturating circuit.
