575,633. Self - contained supply systems. PARTINGTON, W., and METRO - POLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. June 14, 1944, No. 11392. [Class 38 (iv)] Automatic regulation; variable-speed generators, with.-An alternator driven at varying speed supplies a load including a battery through a rectifier, the excitation being made dependent on the alternator load current and volts with an opposing component varying with the battery charging current, and the component varying with the voltage also varies inversely with the frequency. In the form shown, the alternator field winding 10, opposed by winding 30 carrying the 'battery current, is fed from transformer secondary windings 14a, b, c through rectifier 45, the transformer having primary windings 16a, b, c carrying the load current and windings 15a, b, c connected to choke 44 in such manner that the current therein varies with the voltage and inversely with the frequency. Instead of the winding 30, a diverter may be connected in parallel with the rectifier and winding 10 to reduce the current'supplied to the latter as the battery current increases, and a relay may be provided to further increase the opposing excitation when the battery becomes fully charged. A single phase alternator may be used.
