Abstract
544,101. Automatic control systems for dynamoelectric machines. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and LAIRD, J. A. Sept. 26, 1940, No. 14602. [Class 38 (iv)] Voltage current.-A carbon-pile regulator a in the field circuit of a battery charging generator c is controlled by two windings one 8 being connected directly across the output leads and the other h in series with a second carbon-pile regulator j having a controlling winding o subject to the output current and acting to apply pressure to the pile j. Below a certain output the coil g maintains constant voltage and above it the coil h maintains constant current. The carbon-pile a may be included in the circuit of the winding h. A rectifier p may be connected in shunt to the pile to prevent heating. The arrangement operates to maintain a heavy charge on a discharged battery until its voltage is restored.
