Abstract
668,201. Automatic voltage regulators. ROTAX, Ltd. Sept. 6, 1950 [Aug. 15, 1949; Nov. 22, 1949], Nos. 21166/49 and 29849/49. Class 38 (iv). In a system for charging a storage battery from an A.C. generator and rectifier, wherein the generator field winding is energized from the battery through a voltage regulator, the regulator control coil is supplied from the generator to enable the generator voltage to build up on starting when the battery is fully charged. As shown, Fig. 2, in a single-phase system the regulator coil f is connected between one side of the battery c and the centre of the generator winding b. In a polyphase system, the coil is connected between the battery and neutral of the generator or associated transformer, Figs. 1, 3 (not shown). To prevent current surges the supplementary control coil k may be connected across the battery in addition to the coil f between the battery and neutral, Fig. 4, or a single coil may be energized with two components from resistances connected to the battery and neutral, Fig. 6 (not shown).
