Abstract
547,804. Automatic control systems. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., and NIXON, L. R. March 10, 1941, No. 3220. [Class 38 (iv)] Voltage.-Hunting in voltage regulating systems comprising variable resistance such as a carbon pile is prevented by causing transients occurring through the operations of the regulator to inject into the regulator coil a restoring E.M.F. through a transformer winding or condenser in a circuit subject to the transient and in parallel with the coil. Fig. 1 shows a D.C. generator d wherein a transformer has its primary winding t<SP>1</SP> in shunt with a carbon pile r in the field circuit and its secondary winding t<SP>2</SP> across the regulator coil c. In a modification the field winding is connected in parallel with the coil through a condenser. Fig. 3 shows a condenser k which may be electrolytic, as part of a circuit connecting the exciter d<SP>1</SP> of an alternator A in parallel with the regulator coil c, which coil is connected across the alternator through a rectifier. A transformer may be used as in Fig. 1. The Provisional Specification describes also a transformer connected between the field coil and a compensating resistance in series with the regulator coil.
