Abstract

751,985. Automatic voltage-control systems. LEECE-NEVILLE CO. Feb. 24, 1954 [April 15 1953], No. 6440/54. Class 38 (4). In an automatic voltage-control system for a variable-speed, selfexcited alternator 11 supplying a D.C. load over a main rectifier 12, the field is excited via a rectifier 25 and a self-saturating transductor 48, 49 controlled by a vibrating contact voltage regulator 28 and a vibrating contact current-limiting regulator 29. The control winding 52 of the transductor is connected at one end to a point midway between the D.C. output conductors by potential divider 88, 89 whilst the other end is connected to the negative line either directly or through a point resistor, or is connected to the positive line to reverse the control current according to whether the regulators 28, 29 have their moving contacts in the upper, central or lower positions respectively. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the voltage and current regulators have a common point resistor. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the regulators short out one or other of a second pair of resistors connected across the D.C. output forming a second potential divider to which the control winding is connected. Specification 724,720 is referred to.
