810,137. Automatic voltage control systems. ETABLISSEMENTS DUCELLIER. May 18, 1956 [May 21, 1955; April 4, 1956], No. 15520/56. Class 38 (4). In an automatic voltage regulating system for a D.C. generator in which the field current is controlled by a vibrating contact regulator the control coil of the regulator is energized by a transistor in accordance with the difference between generator voltage and a reference voltage. It is stated that a carbon-pile regulator may be substituted for the vibrating contact regulator. The generator 1 supplies a load 3 and is regulated by contacts 7 inserting a resistance 8 in series with the field 2. The control coil 6 is energized by a transistor 13 controlled in accordance with the difference between the voltage of a reference tube 12 and a portion of the generator voltage tapped off potentiometer 16. Current limiting is provided by a transistor 19 in parallel with the first and controlled by the voltage across a shunt 18. In a modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), the reference voltage is provided by a battery and the current limiter is omitted. In another modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) the current-limiting transistor operates by controlling the base/emitter voltage of the voltage control transistor. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), current limiting is effected by a conventional current coil on the regulator.
