Abstract

834,103. Automatic voltage control systems. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Nov. 1, 1957 [Nov. 1, 1956], No. 34194/57. Class 38 (4). The field of a generator is controlled by a transistor in. accordance with the output voltage and current of the generator. The field 45 of a D.C. generator 44 is shunt excited through a transistor 13 which is controlled via an emitter follower transistor 17 by two common emitter transistor amplifiers 23, 27 which share a common collector resistor 22. The transistor 23 is controlled in accordance with the load current as measured across resistor 35, and transistor 27 is controlled in accordance with the difference between the output voltage of the generator as tapped off a potential divider 34 and a reference voltage across a Zener diode 32. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the transistor 13 is inserted in the negative field lead. In another modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the D.C. generator is replaced by an alternator which supplies the field and D.C. load over a bridge rectifier.
