887,407. Automatic voltage-control systems. BOSCH G.m.b.H., ROBERT. May 1, 1958 [May 2, 1957], No. 74/60. Divided out of 887,405. Class 38 (4). In an automatic voltage regulator for a shunt exciter D.C. generator of the kind in which a transistor is in series with the field winding, the transistor is controlled by a Hall generator responsive to the output voltage and current of the machine to give a compound characteristic generator G having a field F supplies a battery over a rectifier D2 (which replaces the cut-out). The field F is in series with a transistor T2 which forms a blocking oscillator with the field F and a capacitor 40. The magnitude of the current pulses is controlled by a Hall generator 43 in the base circuit, the impedance of the Hall generator being controlled by an electromagnet 44. The electromagnet 44 has a voltage coil 45 in series with a Zener diode D1 across the output of the generator G, and a current coil 46, opposing the voltage coil 45 connected in series with a diode D4 across a resistor R5 in series with the load. The diode D4 is either of the kind having a pronounced kink in its forward characteristic, or is a Zener diode, in which case it would be connected in the opposite direction to that shown.
