Abstract

917,540. Automatic voltage and current control systems. BOSCH G.m.b.H., ROBERT. July 17, 1959 [July 19, 1958], No. 24571/59. Class 38 (4). The field current of a self-excited alternator which supplies a D.C. load over a rectifier (for use on a motor vehicle, is controlled by a blocking oscillator which switces a transistor in series with the field, the oscillator being controlled by the output voltage and current of the alternator. The alternator G supplies a battery B through a main rectifier G1 and a cut-out 111. The field F is connected to the main rectifier G1 through a transistor Trl which is keyed on and off by pulses from a blocking oscillator comprising transistor Tr2, transformer œ and capacitor C3. The oscillator provides pulses to intermittently cut off transistor Tr 1, for as long as transistor Tr2 is allowed to conduct, by the conduction of either Zener diode Zl or Zener diode Z2. Diode Zl is connected to a potential divider R6, R7 across the output of rectifier G1 so as to respond to output voltage, and diode Z2 is connected to a potential divider R9, R11 across the rectified output of a current transformer W so as to respond to generator output current and maintain it constant at and upper limit. By including a resistor R 11 in the voltage-responsive circuit (shown dotted) a level or a rising compound characteristic can be provided.
