Abstract

1,190,134. Protecting rectifiers. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. 16 April, 1969 [18 April, 1968], No. 18400/68. Heading H2F. [Also in Division G3] A vehicle supply system, of the type wherein an alternator-rectifier system 4, 6 supplies a load 2 and battery 3 and a voltage regulator 13 controls the alternator field winding 5 in response to variations of the battery voltage as sensed by a Zener diode Z, is provided with a protective diode D2 arranged to become conductive if the B+ terminal of the regulator is disconnected from the battery 3 or if the latter is disconnected from the system 4, 6. Conduction of the diode J32 applies to the Zener diode Z a voltage substantially that of the system 4, 6, thus causing the diode Z to continue its normal operation of controlling the alternator output voltage at a predetermined value. In the described embodiment the diode Z controls transistors T1, T2, T3 to intermittently energize the winding 5 by switching of transistor T1.
