Abstract

615,081. Charging batteries. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 23, 1946, No. 25226. Convention date, Sept. 1, 1945. [Class 38 (iv)] The polarity of the charging terminals 11, 16, as established by a battery, not shown, connected thereto for charging, controls the operation of a reversing contactor 3 for ensuring connections of the correct polarity for charging between the terminals 11, 16 and a charging source 2. For this purpose a relay 4, having a contact 30 controlling the energization of the operating coil 6 of the contactor from a separate source 5, is connected in series with a rectifier 36 across the charging terminals, so that the relative polarity of the terminals 'determines whether or not the relay-and consequently the contactor coil-is energized.
