Abstract

497,712. Charging and discharging batteries. WEST & CO., Ltd., A., and DAVID, O. T. June 21, 1937, No. 17196. [Class 38 (iv)] In a charging system for a battery which may be connected to a load, means responsive to the charging current prevent the connection of the load whilst the battery is being charged. A battery B supplying a motor A on a vehicle through contactor controlled resistances, may be charged by connecting mains to a plug S whereby the charging current flowing through coils 2W5, 1W5 operates a contact c5 in the supply to the motor controller C. The controller C normally controls windings W1 ... W4 of contactors c1 ... c4 so that connection of the charging source prevents effective operation of the controller C. During normal running, the coil 1W5 operates on its contact c5 as an overload relay.
