Abstract

542,327. Starting prime-movers ; charging bat. teries ; selecting sources on service. C.A.V., Ltd., and GLASER, W. H. July 2, 1940, No. 11160. [Class 38 (iv)] Current may be supplied from a battery a or other current source to any apparatus, such as the starting motor of a vehicle motor at appropriate voltage by electromagnetic selector switches r each responsive to a different voltage and adapted to be connected in parallel to the vehicle battery x for example by a plug connection f. Each selector switch r controls a corresponding electromagnetic switch m whereby a connection at the correct voltage is effected with the battery a. The selector switches are connected so that one only is effective at a time. If a starter motor is to be controlled through a switch 5 on the vehicle this switch may be shunted through an additional coupling to the battery a. The invention may be used for other purposes such as the connection of a battery charging apparatus to batteries of different voltages.
