Abstract

362,488. Charging and discharging batteries ; supplying consuming devices. BURN, L., Victoria House, Southampton Row, London. Sept. 1, 1930, No. 26064. [Class 38 (iv).] To enable a load L to be supplied at a constant voltage irrespective of the difference between the discharge and the charging voltages of a battery, the battery is divided into two parts B, C such that the voltage of the whole in discharging. is equal to the. load voltage, whereas the difference between the voltages of the parts B, C when charging is also equal to the load voltage. The generator voltage is equal to the charging voltage of the part B of the battery and the part C of the battery is charged in series with the load so that its. voltage is opposed to that of the generator A when both load and generator are operative. The change of connections may be automatically effected by a cut-in switch E which may directly control switching means G, H or energize a solenoid S operating those means as shown. A variable resistance. R in parallel with the section may be provided to adjust the voltage applied to the load. A starter motor Q may be arranged in parallel with the main battery section.
