Abstract
642,375. Automatic control systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 6, 1946, No. 36157. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In an automatic control system, a marginal relay has two sets of controls, on each side of the movable contact member; for normal deviation of the member one set closes and for larger deviations - both close. The marginal relay, Fig. 1, energizes either relay LV or HV according to the normal deviation of member 1 and connects the armature, ARM, of the correcting motor, Fig. 2, to the supply. With large deviations, the relay HS is also energized and the resistor, 4, is placed in series with the field 3 of the motor which accelerates. In a modification, not shown, the motor operates the final correcting device through a magnetic clutch, the energization of which is effected by relays LV, HV. The marginal relay may take the form of a mercury switch and devices may be operated.
