Abstract

992,175. Automatic Speed and current control. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGSG.m.b.H. Feb. 7, 1963, No.5030/63. Heading G3R. [Also in Division H2] A resistor 10 is connected through choke 5 to rectifier 4 associated with a winding of an A.C. motor, a semi-conductor switch 1 being in parallel with the resistor so that the on/off periods of the switch determine the mean current in the winding. Each conducting period of the switch may be terminated by a quenching circuit comprising a further semi-conductor switch controlling the discharge of a capacitor, a choke and a diode being used to recharge the capacitor. In other arrangements, a semi-conductor switch is connected in series with the resistor for controlling the effective external resistance value, or semi-conductor switches may be connected respectively in series and in parallel with the resistor. A capacitor suppresses voltage surges when the series switch becomes non-conductive. A three phase induction motor has its stator winding associated with reversing contactors and its rotor winding with a short-circuiting contactor. A control unit compares a reference voltage with a tachometer voltage and produces signals for controlling semiconductor devices in the rotor circuit. As shown, rectifier 16 is connected to the supply network and applies across the resistor 10 a voltage which opposes the output of rectifier 4, this opposing voltage being controlled by switch 13. Control unit 12 compares a reference signal with a signal derived from current transformer 11 to control the switch 1, whilst unit 20 compares a reference signal with a signal derived from transformer 21 to control the switch 13. The motor may be supplied from an alternator whose excitation is varied from a unit which also controls the rotor current. The motor may be adapted for pole-changing or stardelta control. The control arrangement is also effective during braking periods, when the motor operates as a generator.
