Abstract

1492583 Generators ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 17 Oct 1974 [18 Oct 1973] 44976/74 Heading H2A In a generator usable, e.g. for supplying power to a load 9 in a motor vehicle, a phase winding 4 energized by an exciter winding 5 is connected to a rectifier circuit having sets of diodes, e.g. 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, 1<SP>11</SP> and 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> respectively for rectifying positive and negative half cycles of the current, one of the positive diodes ref. 1 being connected to a point 11 intermediate the ends of the winding 4, and in use of the generator a switch 13 is operated in accordance with a chosen parameter to vary the effective number of turns of the winding 4. In the arrangement shown, the switch 13 opens at a predetermined speed of the vehicle and only the upper part of winding 4 in Fig. la continues to function. A set of diodes 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>11</SP> supply current to winding 5 via a regulator 6. A three phase arrangement operating on the above principles is described with reference to Fig. 1b (not shown). In Figs. 2a, 3a (not shown), a speed sensitive switch (13) with a third terminal connects pairs of diodes in parallel, as well as varying the effective number of turns of the phase winding (4). In Figs 4a, 4b (not shown), parts of phase windings are connected in-series or in-parallel according to the operation of a switch (13). Figs 7, 8 (not shown) include a relay-operated switch (13). In each case, switching may alternatively be predetermined by the temperature in a part of the generator, or by the current generated. Controlled rectifiers, transductors and bi-metallic switches are usable as alternatives to mechanical switches.
