[Also in Group XXXVII] An eddy-current brake a, which may be of the squirrel-cage type, is mechanically coupled directly or indirectly to a crane motor b, the field winding c of the brake being supplied from power source d through rectifier e. A variable resistance f is connected in series with the field winding of the brake, and at least one centrifugal switch h, responsive to the speed of the brake rotor, automatically interrupts the supply of current to the winding c at a predetermined speed. The circuit through the field winding of the brake may be controlled in part by contacts on the motor regulator i. A safety relay m disconnects the motor if there is an excessive current in the system associated with the brake.
