1,014,000. Control of A.C. motors. ELECTRICAL APPARATUS CO. Ltd. Oct. 9, 1964, No. 41319/64. Heading H2J. An induction motor is braked by supplying a stator winding with direct-current derived from rectifier 27 which is connected through choke-winding 19 across winding 37 of a mains-supplied auto-transformer. The choke has a saturating winding 18 whereby the impedance of coil 19 is reduced, when the rotor current increases, to increase the braking current. This enables the motor to operate at a stable lowering speed irrespective of the magnitude of the load. A discharge resistor 32, having a non-linear volt-ampere characteristic, protects the rectifier 27 against excessive voltage. The transformer may be tapped, and may be replaced by a transformer having separate primary and secondary windings. Specification 794,891 is referred to.
