Class 143 [Also in Group XXX] An apparatus for rejecting underweight articles (e.g. dough pieces) from a stream, comprises a conveyer 10 passing over rollers 15 supported by a scale 17 and a pivoted deflector 19 which directs correct or overweight pieces to a conveyer 33 and diverts underweight pieces on to a conveyer 20. The deflector is moved to the dotted line position by a linkage 211, 21 and a cam 24 (Fig. 6) when, due to the closing of contacts (not shown) in the scale 17, a solenoid (not shown) withdraws a rod 29 from engagement with an arm 281 and so allows a constantly rotating toothed wheel 26 to drive cam 24, which is loosely mounted on shaft 25, through a pawl 27. In a modification (Fig. 9, not shown) the solenoid is directly connected to the link 21.
