Abstract

786,181. Shelter roofs. LUBBERS, W. P. Dec. 5, 1955, No. 34739/55. Class 20(4) A shelter roof construction, of substantially semi-parabolic cross-section comprising rafters 1 secured at one end to the ground or to a foundation 2 with a roof of sheet material secured thereto, is made from sheets 3 of thin sheet material having a length equal to the length of crosssection of the roof and a width substantially equal to the distance between two rafters, the sheets 3 having purlins 4 secured thereto and having fastening means for attachment to the rafters 1. The sheets 3 are each made from a number of narrow portions connected together along their edges to form the required length. Each rafter 1 has a lower beam 6 of reversed U-section to which angle irons 7, 8 are secured, as by welding, at the point of each purlin 4, the angle irons being slightly above the lower edges of the beam 6. The sheets 3, which may be rolled up for transporting to the site, are secured between the purlins 4 and the beams 6 by bolts 12 which pass through holes 9 in the angle irons 7, 8 and are tightened by nuts 10, washers 11 being secured between the sheets 3 and the purlins 4 to allow condensation on the inside of the roof to run past the purlins. The edges of the sheets 3 are bent up so that any leaking rainwater will flow between the beam 6 and the bent up portion of the sheet. The purlins 4 on adjacent sheets 3 may be connected together by a profile iron overlapping the ends of the purlins. Specifications 776,736 and 786,183 are referred to.
