Abstract
733,332. Metal building frameworks; trusses; columns. CHURCHILL, H. W. S., and WYNMALEN, H. Aug. 21, 1951 [Aug. 21, 1950], No. 20638/50. Classes 20 (1) and 20 (2). A building framework comprises tubular stanchions 1, Fig. 5, in sections connected end to end and connected by brackets 20 to similarly constructed rafters 24, the lowest sections 2, Fig. 8, of the stanchions being embedded in the ground, the stanchions and rafters being interconnected by channel section rails 9 and purlins 30 respectively supporting cladding by clips. The stanchions and rafter sections are connected by screwed studs 4, Fig. 8, screwing into plugs 3 welded in the ends of the sections. The flanges of the rails 9 carry outer cladding 16, Fig. 9, and inner cladding 18 supported by hooks 15, 17 respectively and the rails are clamped between the stanchion and rafter sections or connected to collars 13 slidable on the stanchions and rafters and secured by screws. Each bracket 20 is secured by a bolt 22 to the top of a stanchion and is clamped between a rafter 24 and an eaves tube 25 which carries purlin 27 supporting roof cladding 29. The ridge purlins 30, Fig. 11, are connected by a strap 31 and are clamped between the ends of rafters 24 and V-shaped parts 42. The tubular collar of a collar beam roof is flattened at the ends and clamped between the rafter sections, ties being provided each having one of their ends connected to a tie strap in the middle of the collar beam and the other to either an eave bracket 20 or a ridge strap 31. The outer cladding panels have interfitting edge rolls. The ridge cover 44, Fig. 11, nests on the edge rolls 46 and is secured to wooden billets 47 hooked to the cladding by hooks 48. In a modification metal fillers may replace the wooden billets and have air vents. In Fig. 15 a collar beam roof strut also comprises a ceiling rafter 52 strutted by a strut 54 to the collar beam 32 which is tied by a tie 32 to a ridge bracket 53 at the junction of the rafters 24. The rafter 52 is connected to shoes 55 to which are received the rafters 24 and stanchions 1. Ceiling sheets 56, Fig. 16, are clamped by serrated wedges 59 on intersecting T-section metal strips 57, carried by straps 58 on the rafters 52. The top ends of the cladding panels for a gable are fixed to a gable rail 63, Fig. 5; one end of which is carried by brackets fixed to the end of an eaves tube 25. A barge board hooks over the end roof panel and is supported by adjustable stays on the gable rail. A floor Fig. 19 (not shown), is supported on brackets clamped between stanchion sections. A firststorey floor may be supported on horizontal rails. In buildings of large span the stanchions are formed by the stanchions 1 in pairs or groups of four tied together by bars clamped between the sections and the roof trusses and Warren-type girders formed of rafters 24 with tubular struts having flattened ends clamped between the rafter sections similarly to Fig. 10 (not shown). A box lattice girder may be similarly constructed. Specifications 596,927, 599,011, 599,793, 702,408 and 733,410 are referred to.
