Abstract

723,727. Roofs. BURGESS, D. C. Nov. 25 ' 1953 [Nov. 26, 1952], No. 29982/52. Class 20(4). In a sloping roof construction having a corrugated roof covering 1, the corrugations are so shaped and spaced apart that rows of Madeira tiles 5 fit closely over their convex top surfaces so that the finished structure has the appearance of a tiled roof. Each tile is attached to the covering 1 by a split bolt or rivet 6, passing through a hole 7, the bifurcated ends of the bolt being covered by an adjacent tile. Preferably metallic roofing sheets are used and one longitudinal edge of each sheet is strengthened by bending it twice at right-angles, thus forming a depending flanged web over which the edge of an adjacent sheet is fastened by nuts provided below the split portions of bolts 6. A ridge piece 9 fits into the corrugations at the upper ends of the sheets and between the ridge supports 2, and is covered by a row of mortar joined ridge tiles 10. The eaves portions 13 are flattened and bent to form gutters 14 and the open ends of the lowermost tiles filled with mortar 15.
