660,930. Roofs. KELLER, S. April 28, 1949, No. 11359/49. Class 20(iv) A prefabricated roof member of inverted V-section, Fig. 2, comprises two lattice girders which are each, Fig. 1, in the form of top and bottom chords 1 or 1<SP>1</SP> and 2 or 2' respectively with cross tie-rods or webs 3 or 3<SP>1</SP> and are disposed with their planes inclined at an angle to one another, the top chords 1, 1<SP>1</SP> being positioned side-by-side and welded together, with or without distance pieces, at spaced points 13, Fig. 10, and the bottom chords 2, 2<SP>1</SP> being connected together by transverse ties 4, 12,. welded between the ends thereof. The chords 1, 2 are preferably of rolled T- section, and the webs 3, each of flat bar which is bent to V-section and then has its ends split along the bend for a short distance to provide two laps adapted to be connected to the two faces of the web of the adjacent chord by spot-welding. When the roof member is used as a rafter, a ridgepiece 9 is provided to extend the whole length of the roof and the rafter is fitted with an abutment member 10 of angle-iron, with reduced ends 10<SP>1</SP> of semi-circular section, which is welded to the chords 1, 1<SP>1</SP> at the upper end thereof and is secured to the ridge by a pair of clips 11, Fig. 7; at the other end of the rafter the transverse tie 4, Fig. 5, is adapted to be secured to a wall plate 5 by a clip or shackle 6. A timber 14, to which battens 16 are nailed, may be laid in the trough formed by the flanges of the chords 1, 1<SP>1</SP> and secured in place by screws, not shown. Two such roof members 30, 31, Fig. 22, may be superposed with their V- ends adjoining and connected together by welding the chords 2, 2<SP>1</SP> to spaced interposed flat steel bars 32.
