Abstract

846,764. Steel building frames. MACOMBER Inc. July 30, 1957. No. 24155/57. Class 20(2) A steel frame for a building comprises quickly detachable connections between columns and girders and/or girts and between other ends of purlins and intermediate parts of girders. The ends of a girder 28 have headed studs 37 adapted to engage keyhole slots 27 in channels 25 welded to a column 20 and the purlins 45 have similar headed studs 51 adapted to engage keyhole slots 43, having lateral openings 44, in channel members 42 on the girders. The ends of the girts 61 have hooks 65 adapted to engage channel brackets 60 on the columns. The girder chords are pairs of angles 31 between which V-section web members 32 are welded. The purlins comprise double channel section chords 46 connected by a zig zag rod web 47. The girts comprise double channel section chords 62 connected by plates 63 alternately reversely angled. Channel stiffeners 66 connect the girders and girts and bridging angles 52 connect the purlins. The frame is braced by crossed vertical and horizontal braces. The bridging angles 52 may be connected to the chord 46 of a purlin by loops 55 Fig. 15, welded to the purlin chord, passed through a slot in. the angle and secured by a wedge 57 finally bent over at the end.
