Class 20(4) In composite steel and concrete floors, ceilings, roofs, bridges and the like, a concrete layer 1 has at least one beam comprising an inverted steel T-section girder 2 provided with means 3 at the upper non-flanged part, to key the girder to the concrete and to provide longitudinal shear reinforcement therebetween, the girder extending downwards from the concrete layer and may or may not be concrete encased. The means 3 may be a mild steel helix of wire or rod as shown, welded to the girder 2 at spaced points 4 or, in a modification. Figs. 4, 5 (not shown) may be in the form of expanded metal welded to the girder at suitable intervals. The girder may be of various sections or formed from rolled steel joists cut either along the web or so as to have one flange removed. The joists may be cut along their webs in a castellated manner and the concrete may be cast in situ or may be of pre-cast units particularly where used in roof constructions.
