Abstract

Textile materials are treated with 0.01 to 1 per cent, calculated on the fibre weight, of a fatty acid, fatty alcohol or derivative of either, which contains in the molecule more than 10 carbon atoms and at least 2 double bonds. The materials treated may be fibres, threads or woven or knitted fabrics of nylon, acetate rayon, polyesters or vinyl polymers. The compounds may be applied in solution or aqueous dispersion or may be added to the spooling or twist oils. The derivatives of the compounds include esters and ethers with cyclic or acyclic mono- or poly-hydroxy alcohols or ether alcohols, salts of their acid esters with polybasic inorganic acids, amides derived from ammonia or organic bases or salts of the acids with ammonia, metals or organic acyclic, isocyclic or heterocyclic bases. Specified are: linoleic acid, linoleyl alcohol, elaeostearic acid, a glycol ester of the fatty acid of linseed oil and the salt with an organic base of an acid phosphoric acid ester of an unsaturated alcohol mixture obtained by reducing soya oil fatty acid. Dispersing agents used are turkey red oil, condensates of ethylene oxide and oleyl alcohol or linoleyl alcohol, and the sodium salt of the acid sulphuric acid ester of oleyl alcohol.
