Abstract

Compounds of the general formula <FORM:1111396/C2/1> wherein R1 and R4 each individually represent C11- 21 alkyl, R2 is hydrogen or methyl, R3 is C1- 4 alkyl, X is oxygen or an -NH- or -NCH3- group and a is 0, 1 or 2, and the salts thereof with lower (up to C4) organic acids and inorganic acids are obtained by reacting 1 mole of a compound of the general formula <FORM:1111396/C2/2> at 180-190 DEG C. for several hours with 1 mole of a compound of the formula R1-COOH and 1 mole of a compound of the formula R4-COOH and then optionally converting the product into an acid addition salt with a lower organic acid or an inorganic acid. The products in which X is oxygen are claimed to be novel. In examples, R1 and R4 are derived from stearic and palmitic acids and specified salt-forming groups are acetate and formate.ALSO:Textiles which have been hardened by repeated washing are treated in the final rinsing path of a washing operation with an aqueous emulsion or solution containing one or more compounds of the general formula: <FORM:1111396/D1-D2/1> Wherein R1 and R4 each individually represent an alkyl radial containing 11 to 21 carbons, R2 is hydrogen or methyl, R3 is C1-4 alkyl, X is oxygen or an -NH- or -NCH3- group and a is 0, 1 or 2, or salts thereof with lower (up to C4) oganic acids or inorganic acids. The compounds are preferably used in the form of their salts, optionally in admixture with non-ionic surface active compounds, e.g. polyglycol ethers of fatty alcohols, and they are preferably employed as 5-10% by wt. aqueous solutions or emulsions specified extile fabrics are cotton towelling, a fabric consisting of polyacrylonitrile fibres and wool and a fabric consisting of polyester fibres and rayon.
