Abstract

A precipitation-hardenable copper alloy has a composition within the following range: .Al.5.5 - 8.0 per cent .Co.1.0 - 2.0 per cent .Fe.0.5 - 2.0 per cent .Si.0 - 0.5 per cent Cu and impurities the balance The Fe content in exces of 0.75 per cent may be replaced by an equal weight of Mn. The alloy may be solution treated between 850 DEG C. and 1000 DEG C., air cooled or quenched in water depending on the thickness of the article and precipitation hardened between 400 DEG C. and 600 DEG C.
