Abstract

A permanent magnet alloy consists of 1-4 per cent.C, 4-12 per cent. Al, the balance Fe. The alloy may also contain up to 6 per cent. in total of one or more of Co, Ni, Cu, Mn, Ti, Sn, W, Mo, Cr, V, Be or B. After casting and cooling the alloy is reheated to between 1100 and 1300 DEG C., held at this temperature for 10-30 minutes, and then quenched. Alternatively, thin castings may be rapidly cooled in air. Then follows tempering at 200-600 DEG C. for 30-60 minutes.
