Abstract

774,575. Mine roof supports. HAARMANN A. Oct. 31, 1952, No. 19997/54. Divided out of 774,574. Class 20(2) Mine roof supporting girders particularly arches comprising two girders 10, 11 clamped together by a clamp 12 so as to slide relatively under mine roof pressure are provided with pressure members 16 between the clamp and the girders which deform at a predetermined pressure. The pressure member is a metal tube of rectangular section and the clamp is tightened until the side walls begin to yield thus giving an indication of the pressure. Two pressure members are clamped between two ties 13, 15 and are welded to a plate 19 embracing the tie 15 by side flanges 20. The pressure member may be arranged longitudinally of channel section girders between the clamp and the base of the channels, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown). The base of the clamps may be made to prevent tilting. Where the pressure member is between two ties the surface of the tie engaging a girder may be rounded or a knife edge to prevent stressing of the pressure member by tilting of the clamp. In other modifications the clamp is replaced by a cranked tie and bolts, Figs. 9-13 (not shown).
