Abstract

966,592. Yielding mine roof supports. HAYDON-NILOS Ltd. Nov. 9, 1962 [Nov. 18, 1961], No. 41344/61. Heading E1E. In a yielding mine arch support or pit prop consisting of a mine arch girder of H-shape cross-section sliding relative to two like base girders 4 interconnected by a bolted clamp 12, 13, 14 the girder 8 is provided with a pipe 18 bent to U-shape configuration which yieldably enters a gap 16 defined by cross bars 15 welded to the members 4. The cross bars may carry rollers and the clamp incorporate wedging means, see Figs. 6 and 8 (not shown), respectively. Again, the girders 4 may be of channel section having short vertical lengths of channel section welded thereto into holes in the webs of which are secured the bars 15, see Figs. 10-12 (not shown).
