Abstract

886,036. Pipe clamps. CHURCHILL INSTRUMENT CO. Ltd, and BETTS ASBESTOS & ENGINEERING Ltd. May 2, 1960 [May 4, 1959], No. 15177/59. Class 44. A clamp for pipe flanges comprises at least three saddles 9 having a V-shaped groove 11 embracing the pipe flanges 12, slidably carried by a flexible band 1 received in a groove 10. The band when contracted by the worm drive 8 forces the saddles on to the flanges with a wedging action. The worm drive has an extension piece 6 with lugs 7 co-operating with the shaped end 3 of the band 1 to form a quick release; the worm drive may be incorporated with one of the saddles. The clamp may comprise several flexible bands as described, connected end to end; the saddles may be of arcuate form. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown) the saddles are of sheet metal with rolled edges to receive two rings of wire which may be contracted by any convenient means.
