Abstract

605.996. Mine-roof supports; tie-rods. JONES, D. L. Feb. 6, 1946, No. 3759. [Class 20(ii)] A temporary, extensible tie-rod for use in erecting H-sectioned arch members for supporting roofs in colliery headings comprises metal strips A, B slidably engaged by a clamp C, and clips each consisting of hook members E bolted at G to clamping plates F. The tie-rod extends in the longitudinal direction of the colliery heading, between two half-sections K of two arches, each clip engaging the opposed edges of one of the flanges on the vertical portion of an arch member. One of the clips may be fixed to its corresponding strip by a hinge, buckle joint L, the plate F being locked to the strip by a bolt P. In a modification, the bolts G, P are replaced by wing nuts and bolts, and the plates F are provided with lugs which extend over the members E.
