Class 20(ii) An arch to support mine galleries or a pit prop comprises members 1, 2 of identical channel cross-section the ends of which are fitted into one another and clamped together to allow sliding movement under roof pressure and so that the flanges 3 engage one another and the flanges 3 are of sufficient thickness to hold the bases 2 apart, the angle between the webs 1 being between 15 degrees and 45 degrees. The webs taper from the flanges to the base. The flanges may engage by curved surfaces or by projections 6, Fig. 5, which may be on top, as shown, or below the flanges or by ribs on one flange of trapezoidal or semi-circular cross-section engaging grooves in the other.
