Abstract
682,984. Arch supports in mines and tunnels. LINSINGEN, M. VON, (trading as BOCHUMER EISENHUETTE HEINTZMANN & CO.). May 5,1950 [May 5, 1949], No. 11190/50. Class 20(ii) Two overlapping trough sections, 1, Fig. 1, of an arch support are secured together at the ends of the overlapping portion by clamping rings, 3, 3a, the ring 3 having an inwardly inclined head 4 engaging over the free end edge of the section 2 and/or of the ring 3 engaging in notches in the flanges of the section 2 so as to be carried along by that section as it moves under roof pressure and being tightened by two wedges 6 engaging between brackets 5, Fig. 2, on the ring 3 and the undersides of the flanges 1a of the section 1. Instead of a head 4, the ring 3a has projection's 8, 8a, Fig. 3, engaging over the free end edge of the section and is similarly tightened by wedges 6. The lower tightening surface of each wedge 6 has two different gradients and the rounded upper surface engaging the flange 1a is curved longitudinally to correspond with the curvature of the section 1.
