Abstract
772,350. Root's blowers. HANOMAG AKT.- GES. Sept. 13, 1955, No. 26116/55. Class 110(2). A method of reducing the working clearances in a Root's blower comprises adding sealing matter such as colloidal graphite, synthetic material, varnish, metal, or the like to the air passing into the blower, during operation, to be deposited on the sealing surfaces of the blower. The sealing material 9 is fed into a vaporizer 8 connected in a conduit 7 attached to the blower inlet port and forms sealing layers 11 on the stator bore and layers 12 on the rotors 4, 5. The material may be pressure injected. When the blower has a desired volumetric efficiency, indicated on an indicator 10 in an outlet conduit 2, hot air is passed through the blower to dry the sealing matter. The sealing surfaces may receive a preparatory treatment such as roughening, de-greasing, or a coating with varnish. The sealing matter may also be lead, tin, zinc, or nylon.
