769,892. Pistons. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG AKT. - GES. June 24, 1955 [June 24, 1954], No. 18353/55. Class 122 (1). In a piston for an internal-combustion engine having a combustion chamber 2 formed in the piston head 1, the mass of the head is reduced by forming in the head around the combustion chamber a space or spaces extending to the top surface of the piston and closed by a gas-tight cover. The space or spaces may be in the form of an annular channel 8, which may be subdivided, closed by a plate 9 welded or threaded in the head, holes 6 of the same or varying diameters closed by plugs 7, or non-circular holes. The spaces may be connected to the interior of the piston by holes 11.
