Class 7(2) In an engine having a part-spherically domed cylinder head 20 and piston head 30, a combustion space is formed by a flat-topped recess 21 in the cylinder head accommodating the exhaust valve 15 and sparking plug 17 and a corresponding recess 31 in the piston, the close approach of the domed portions 20, 30, at top dead centre forcing the mixture at high speed into the combustion space to produce turbulence. The inlet valve 13 is arranged radially to the domed surface and the exhaust valve 15 parallel to the cylinder axis.
