767,854. Forging; punching. SCHONDELMAIER, C. Sept. 11, 1954, No. 26358/54. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Making valves.-A method of making a cupshaped article 3<SP>1</SP>, particularly a closure member for a valve, having on the outside of its base an axial pin 7 surrounded by an annular groove 6, comprises cold-pressing a blank in a closedended die 8 by means of a ram 1 having a cylindrical or conical nose or mandrel for forming the hollow 5 and a flat surface for forming a flat flange 4. The die is closed by an ejector 9 whose upper surface forms the pin and groove. The flange may subsequently be removed by a punch and die set 10, 11, Fig. 4. For use as a valve closure member, a gasket is inserted in the groove and the pin 7 is threaded for receiving a washer and lock-nut for holding the gasket in position.
