Abstract

922,328. Making rings; punching; forging. SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN A.B. Jan. 18, 1962 [Feb. 8, 1961], No. 1962/62. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A method of making an annular blank and a solid blank of desired volume ratio by punching out the centre portion of a solid workpiece comprises pressing the workpiece axially between dies, at least one of which has in it a recess of adjustable depth, thereby to form on one end surface of the workpiece a cylindrical projection, the diameter of the recess being equal to the diameter of the punch. The workpiece 11 is pressed between a plane member 12 and a recessed member 13. The bottom of the recess is formed by a piston 14, the position of which can be adjusted by a screwpiece 113, which can also serve as an ejector. The workpiece is then positioned on a die 111 and the centre punched out by a punch 19. The adjustable recess may be formed in the member 12. The recess may have a central conical projection to form a conical recess in the projection formed on the workpiece (Fig. 3, not shown). The diameter of the original workpiece may be greater or smaller than the diameter of the recess.
