Class 102(1) In a fuel injection pump of the kind in which a plunger pump 6 delivers fuel to the injectors through a rotary and axially reciprocable distributer 7 the latter is rotated by a rotary coaxial member 25 the driving engagement permitting axial displacement of the distributer 7 and separate means are provided for co-operation with the distributer to convert the rotary movement into combined rotary and reciprocating movement. This means, as shown, comprises a groove 35 which is engaged by a fixed pin 34. The groove may be formed in the casing and the pin carried by the distributer. Alternatively, the disributer 7 may carry a swash plate or an inclined integral flange or rib which engages a slot in a ball mounted for universal movement in a fixed socket. The driving engagement comprises a tongue 28 engaging in a slot 29. Alternatively, the members may carry adjacent discs one of which carries an eccentric peg which engages in an ecentric slot or recess in the other. The member 25 is driven through bevel gears 26, 27 from the cam shaft 2 which carries a multi-lobe cam 3 for the pump which delivers to a passage 20 which is in constant communication with an inclined groove 21 and groove 22 in the distributer 7; the groove 22 communicates in turn with the outlet ports 23 which are in a plane parallel to the plane of the groove 21.
