Abstract

1,003,180. Fuel injection pumps. SOC. POUR L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES CHIMIQUES ET PHYSIQUES S.A. June 8, 1962 [June 15, 1961], No. 22334/62. Heading F1A. In a fuel injection pump having a piston 3 reciprocated by an engine driven cam-shaft 5, advancing of the injection timing is effected by axial movement of a spring-loaded, helicallysplined sleeve 9 coupling the engine drive shaft 8 and cam-shaft 5 to effect relative rotation between the shafts, such axial movement being effected by pistons 11a, 11b subjected to the delivery pressure of a gear-type feed pump 14, 15, driven by the cam-shaft. Rotation of piston 3 is effected by cam-shaft 5 through gears 28, 29 and 30, Fig. 2. A by-pass valve 20 in the feed pump circuit acts to maintain the gear pump delivery pressure porportional to engine speed. Surplus fuel from the feed pump passes through chamber 23, thereby cooling the injection pump, and returns to the fuel tank via a check valve 33.
